You may not realize it, but 8 out of 10 woman walk around constantly wearing the wrong bra size day in and day out. That is 80%! Now you wonder why you can’t wait to take that bra off at the end of the day?
Determining your correct bra size is very important and can be done in a few easy steps. Many women are wearing the wrong bra size because our bodies are always changing and frankly, it is one of those things that “falls off the plate” on the list of “to-do” daily.
Warning Signs That You Are Wearing the Wrong Size Bra:
1. Discomfort: You should be comfortable standing, walking and doing your daily activities without pokes, prods and digging.
2. Overflow on the cups: This also includes if you are coming out of the bottom of the cups as well.
3. Overflow on the back straps: Your bra is too tight if you have an overflow of tissue on the backside.
4. Tight fitting straps: You should be able to get two fingers underneath your strap. It should fit “snug” but not be too tight.
5. You can see a gap between your cups and your body: If the middle of your bra or any part of your cup lifts off the body, your cup size is too small. These aspects should lay flush with your body.
Although these are not all of them, these are the most common signs.
So How Do I Get the Right Bra Size?
1. First, you need to measure the around measure of when the measuring tape is under your arms, going high across your back and across the chest near the top. Look at the number; this is your band size if it is an even number. If the number is odd, add 1” to bring it up to your band size.
2. Next you will have to measure your bust. You want to make sure you measure around the fullest part and have the tape loose, not tight. In order to determine your cup size, you will need to subtract the band measurement from the bust measurement. In essence, each inch is going to represent a cup size. (see the chart below for assistance).
Example:
Maria measures the top portion of her chest and has a measurement of 35”. Since it is an odd number, she adds 1”. This makes her band size 36”.
Next, she measures around the center part of her breasts and comes up with a measurement of 40”.
She then figures out her cup size by subtraction:
40 ”- 36” = 4”
She then looks at the chart under 6” and reads it across. It tells her she is a “D” cup. So, Maria’s total bra size is a 36D.
